Dental Continuing Education

This course will introduce the principles of evidence-based dentistry, how to develop, critically evaluate and implement scientific evidence into day-to-day practice and apply these principles to making the right decisions when advising patients on effective self-care in caries and periodontal disease prevention.

The purpose of this course is to provide information on the dental erosion process, highlight key similarities and differences between dental erosion and caries, provide effective strategies to help educate patients who are at risk for developing dental erosion, and manage patients who are already experiencing the condition to minimize its effects.

This course is an introduction to the concepts of demineralization and remineralization and how they can and should be incorporated into clinical practice. Upon completion of this course, participants will understand the continued need for fluoride to help protect against the ongoing challenge to tooth structure, secondary lesions and root caries. Participants will also appreciate the need to examine the literature and evidence when applying clinical preventive techniques for caries prevention.
